Control Systems Engineer - Job Description

SUMMARY

Responsible for providing support for facility electrical and automation controls in Atlanta, GA. Supervises a team of 6 technicians. Will consider candidates who are passionate about developing others, even if they don't have prior management experience.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Optimize and maintain facility and manufacturing equipment electrical and controls systems, automation systems, man-machine interfaces, and industrial communications networks using various tools and software platforms.
  • Support daily operations by troubleshooting and optimizing electrical and automation systems, including materials handling systems, packaging equipment, processing equipment, and printing and coding equipment.
  • Utilize advanced knowledge of power distribution systems to identify and resolve site problems and improve energy efficiency.
  • Maintain an electronic library of all software used in the facility and manufacturing systems, ensuring timely updates.
  • Develop and revise electrical and controls schematics and diagrams using AutoCAD.
  • Mentor and develop the skills of the site Controls Technicians.
  • Troubleshoot and design advanced controls devices such as Servo, Servo amplifiers, and Servo controllers.
  • Design and implement customized Safety Solutions to meet regulations and codes.
  • Build strong relationships with the Corporate Engineering team to enhance current systems architecture and improve manufacturing efficiencies.
  • Ensure electrical systems meet all applicable local, state, and national codes and standards, including NFPA 70, NFPA70E, and OSHA 1910.
  • Work variable schedules as required.
  • Promote a culture of safety and maintain a safe work environment.
  • Perform other assigned duties as needed.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Supervise a team of PLC Technicians.

Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree (B.S.) in electrical engineering, electrical engineering technology, or software engineering from an accredited college or university.
  • Alternatively, an Associates degree in the same field with related experience.
  • Prior experience with industrial power, electrical, and controls systems is required.
