CNC Service Technician Job Description

We are seeking CNC Field Service Engineers!

Our partner, a leading CNC Machine Tool Builder, is looking for Field Service Engineers to join their team. As a Field Service Engineer, you will be responsible for installing, troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining CNC machine tools at customer sites across the country. This role is crucial for ensuring optimal machine performance and delivering exceptional customer service.

The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in both electrical and mechanical skills, advanced diagnostic abilities, and a customer-centric approach. Reporting to the CNC Field Service Manager, this position is open to candidates located East of the Mississippi River, with preference for those near major airports in IL, TN, KY, AL, and OH.

Responsibilities:

  • Install new CNC machine tool systems with all options and accessories.
  • Perform machine leveling, geometry checks, and final adjustments for peak performance.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and application-related issues.
  • Identify root causes and recommend repair or replacement solutions.
  • Provide technical support via phone, email, and other communication channels.
  • Support customers, distributors, and internal teams with technical guidance.
  • Offer customer training and assist with project coordination as needed.
  • Provide service support at trade shows and company events as required.
  • Maintain detailed service documentation and reporting.
  • Travel extensively (100%) with overnights and occasional weekend travel.
  • Perform other duties as needed.

Requirements:

  • 5+ years of experience in CNC machine tool maintenance and service (electrical and mechanical).
  • 5+ years of experience providing remote technical support in the machine tool industry.
  • Proven experience installing and servicing machining centers, including alignment.
  • Strong knowledge of PLC programming and troubleshooting.
  • Experience with CNC control systems, especially FANUC controls.
  • Solid understanding of power circuits and industrial electrical systems.
  • Excellent troubleshooting, communication, and customer service skills.
  • Ability to travel extensively (100% during weekdays) and work independently in the field.
