An established company located in southwest suburban Atlanta, with a large part of the U.S. market share in their manufacturing industry, is seeking an Automation/Robotics Technician to join their team in a plant environment. This opportunity has arisen due to growth with robotic installations for the assembly process. The position offers a day shift schedule from 8:00am - 4:30pm, with the potential for up to 10 hours of paid overtime per week, paid at time and a half. The company offers an attractive benefits package, including a 401K plan with a 100% match to 5%, as well as relocation assistance. Within the manufacturing environment, the role involves working with die casting, stamping, and the assembly process. The company utilizes robots from Fanuc, ABB, and UR, and there are also Allen Bradley PLCs present. This is a Level III role, therefore a minimum of 5 years of experience is required.

General Summary:

The Automation/Robotics Technician will be responsible for participating in cell design, end of arm tooling, and fixture design, as well as the installation of automated equipment. This role involves a combination of mechanical, electrical, and facilities support. The technician will assist in configuring, testing, operating, maintaining, servicing, and troubleshooting robots and other automated systems used in production. The primary goal is to increase efficiency and prolong the lifespan of robotic and automated equipment by performing the following duties:

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

(The following duties and responsibilities are all essential job functions, as defined by the ADA, except for those that begin with the word "May.") General and other duties as assigned.

Level I

  • Work with pneumatics and principles of compressed air.
  • Work with hydraulics and principles of fluid mechanics.
  • Work with circuits from 120 to 480 volts and other electrical related tasks, including AC and DC power and circuit boards.
  • Assist in the construction of robotic equipment, collaborating closely with engineers.
  • Test robotic systems to ensure proper functioning before use.

Level II (Includes all Level I responsibilities)

  • Layout and installation of all types of plumbing systems, including sweat, glued, screwed, and welded connections.
  • Interpreting isometric drawings related to plumbing.
  • Use of electrical test equipment to take voltage and current readings and conduct ohm testing.
  • Installation and programming of robotic equipment in a manufacturing facility.
  • Troubleshooting electrical and mechanical issues that arise with robotic equipment.
  • Troubleshoot robotic systems using knowledge of microprocessors, programmable controllers, electronics, circuit analysis, mechanics, sensor or feedback systems, hydraulics, or pneumatics.
  • Repair robots or peripheral equipment, such as circuit boards, sensors, controllers, encoders, or servomotors.

Level III (Includes all Level I & II responsibilities)

  • Install air logic controls based on prints or schematics.
  • Troubleshoot hydraulic circuits containing components like check valves, accumulators, cylinders, flow controls, and directional control valves.
  • Troubleshoot PLC systems using a computer.
  • Install, program, or repair programmable controllers, robot controllers, end-of-arm tools, or conveyors.
  • Utilize knowledge of all fabrication equipment to complete maintenance tasks.
  • Operate or oversee the operation of robotics equipment.
  • Analyze and categorize events within the equipment.
  • Collaborate closely with engineers and the production team to achieve desired output.
  • Conduct preventative maintenance, including routine upgrades and inspections.
  • Repair robotic machines, systems, and tools as needed.
  • Disassemble or reassemble robots to repair or replace defective parts.
  • Train others on the installation, use, and servicing of robots.

Education/Experience:

Level I - High school diploma or general education degree (GED), or one to two years of related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Level II - High school diploma or general education degree (GED), two to four years of related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Level III - Technical training certificates or an associate degree, six to eight years of related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations.

Ability to define problems, collect data, and establish facts.

Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to manipulate objects, tools, or controls and to communicate verbally. The employee frequently needs to stand, walk, reach, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, and crawl. Occasionally, the employee is also required to lift up to 50 lbs.
