Job Title: Assistant Plant Engineer – 1st shift

Location: Denison, Iowa

Salary: $115K – 140K plus bonus

Job Summary of the Assistant Plant Engineer:

As the Assistant Plant Engineer, reporting to the Plant Engineer, your main responsibility will be managing the maintenance and engineering operations within the plant to ensure the building and equipment are well-maintained. This will help minimize mechanical downtime and keep production lines running efficiently.

Job Duties & Responsibilities of the Assistant Plant Engineer:

  • Responsible for overseeing capital project development and management, ensuring projects are completed on time and within budget without disrupting plant operations.
  • Collaborate with the Plant Engineer to coordinate project scheduling and execution, ensuring compliance with safety, food safety, and environmental standards.
  • Lead the Maintenance Department in implementing innovative systems like Preventive/Predictive Maintenance and Total Productive Maintenance (TPM).
  • Optimize resource scheduling to increase work output, minimize downtime, reduce costs, and enhance plant capacity.
  • Delegate tasks to the maintenance team, enforce policies, and clarify work responsibilities.
  • Champion plant safety through training, procedure implementation, and continual monitoring.
  • Develop and maintain Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) in collaboration with the Plant Engineer to track maintenance performance.
  • Focus on providing positive leadership for employee development and coaching.

Education & Experience Requirements of the Assistant Plant Engineer:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related field and at least 5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum 2 years of leadership experience with team development and management.
  • Essential experience with PLC and ammonia refrigeration systems.
  • Background in food manufacturing preferred, experience in meat or harvest floor a plus.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and CMMS systems.
  • Advanced technical skills in mechanical and/or electrical fields.
  • Ability to lead resource planning in a large manufacturing setting.
  • Thorough knowledge of maintenance systems and work order processes.
  • Effective communication skills in written and oral formats.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and interpersonal skills.
  • Willingness to work extended hours and weekends as needed.
