Job Title: Machinist

Location: Salisbury, North Carolina

Salary: $25-29/hour

Job Summary of the Machinist: The Machinist role involves setting up and operating both CNC and manual machine tools, such as lathes and mills, to create precise parts used in the production of large equipment in a low-volume work setting. This position requires close collaboration with fabrication, welding, and assembly teams, as well as manufacturing and production scheduling, to ensure jobs stay on track and meet quality standards.

Job Duties & Responsibilities of the Machinist:

• Set up and operate CNC and manual mills, lathes, and related machine tools to produce parts according to print specifications.
• Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and work orders to determine dimensions, tolerances, and machining sequence.
• Select appropriate tooling, speeds, feeds, and work-holding methods for each job.
• Write, modify, and test CNC programs; troubleshoot and adjust programs during production runs.
• Inspect finished parts using precision measuring instruments to ensure they meet specifications.
• Report equipment problems promptly.
• Coordinate with fabrication, welding, and assembly supervisors to maintain job flow.
• Keep work area clean, organized, and safe according to shop safety standards.
• Accurately document completed work, scrap, and downtime.

Education & Experience Requirements of the Machinist:

• 3-5 years of hands-on experience operating CNC and manual machine tools in a manufacturing or job shop environment.
• Experience setting up and running lathes and mills for low-volume work.
• Ability to read blueprints, engineering drawings, and understand GD&T basics.
• Proficiency in precision measuring instruments and quality inspection methods.
• Knowledge of CNC setup and program editing (preferably with Fanuc controls).
• Understanding of speeds, feeds, tooling selection, and materials like steel and aluminum.
• Strong math and problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and commitment to quality.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced production environment.
• High school diploma or equivalent required; machining certification or technical training is a plus.
