Location: Illinois

A prominent U.S. producer of intricately engineered forged components is in search of a Non-Destructive Examination (NDE) Engineer to bolster and innovate inspection technologies across various manufacturing facilities. This position is ideal for a budding engineer who desires to blend engineering, manufacturing, quality assurance, and cutting-edge NDT technologies in a hands-on setting.

In this role, you will collaborate closely with Quality, Metallurgy, Process Engineering, Production, and certified NDT personnel to enhance inspection procedures, address manufacturing obstacles, introduce new technologies, and lead continuous enhancement projects.

Responsibilities

  • Support and enhance non-destructive testing processes such as Ultrasonic Testing (UT), Magnetic Particle (MT), Liquid Penetrant (PT), and Radiographic Testing (RT)
  • Develop and uphold NDT procedures, work instructions, inspection techniques, and ultrasonic reference standards
  • Identify and solve inspection and manufacturing issues utilizing structured problem-solving approaches like 8D, Root Cause Analysis, Fishbone, and Lean principles
  • Evaluate and incorporate new inspection technologies like Phased Array UT, immersion systems, automation, and robotics
  • Create solutions to boost safety and ergonomics within NDT operations
  • Assist with equipment calibration, verification, documentation, and inspection readiness

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering
  • 0-5 years of engineering experience including internships, co-ops, research, senior design projects, or manufacturing
  • Comprehension of NDT methods such as UT, MT, and PT
  • Capability to qualify under ASNT SNT-TC-1A or ISO 9712 certification programs
  • Proficiency in interpreting engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documentation
  • CAD experience (SolidWorks preferred)

Preferred Experience

  • Hands-on experience with ultrasonic, magnetic particle, penetrant, or radiographic inspection
  • ASNT Level II certification (or working towards certification)
  • Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or Kaizen experience
  • Metals, forging, steel, or heavy manufacturing experience
  • Experience with ERP/MRP systems, inspection reporting software, or quality management systems
