Welding Technician – ARC, MIG, and TIG welding

Location: Carrollton, GA

Our company, a major player in the manufacturing industry with a dominant market share and a positive work culture, is currently seeking a Welding Technician for our day shift. As a Welding Technician, you will be responsible for maintaining welding equipment and site property, efficiently performing weld repairs to equipment and facilities in a safe manner. Our location is in southwest suburban Atlanta, GA, offering an attractive hourly rate.

This is a day shift role from 6:00 am to 4:30 pm, Monday through Thursday, with overtime paid at time and 1/2. We also offer an attractive 401K plan with matching.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

The following duties and responsibilities are all essential job functions, as defined by the ADA, except for those that begin with the word "May." General and other duties as assigned.

Level I

  • Arc Welding: Perform arc welding in all positions, select the proper rod for the base material being welded, and apply principles of arc welding.
  • Mig Welding: Perform Mig welding in all positions, select the proper wire and gases for the base material being welded, and implement the principles of Mig welding.
  • Tig Welding: Perform Tig welding in all positions, select the proper rod and gases for the base material being welded, and apply principles of Tig welding.
  • Oxy Fuel/Plasma/Saw cutting: Apply principles of cutting materials.
  • Fabrication: Perform basic fabrication with instruction and supplied prints.
  • Safe Work Practices: Exercise safe work practices around equipment.

Level II (includes all Level I responsibilities)

  • Arc Welding: Select rods without instruction to optimize strength and performance of welds.
  • Mig Welding: Select wire and gases/pressures without instruction to optimize strength and performance of welds.
  • Tig Welding: Select rod and gases/pressures without instruction to optimize strength and performance of welds.
  • Oxy Fuel/Plasma cutting: Set up torch optimally with some instruction to minimize impact on workpiece.
  • Fabrication: Perform fabrication with minimal instruction and supplied prints.
  • Safe Work Practices: Evaluate work environment to optimize safety for facilities and others in the work area.

Level III (includes all Level I & II responsibilities)

  • Arc Welding: Certified Arc welding in all positions.
  • Mig Welding: Certified Mig welding in all positions.
  • Tig Welding: Certified Tig welding in all positions.
  • Oxy Fuel/Plasma cutting: Set up torch optimally without instruction to minimize impact on workpiece.
  • Fabrication: Perform advanced fabrication without instruction and supply own prints (may include some basic machining).
  • Safe Work Practices: Evaluate work environment to optimize safety for facilities and others in the work area.

Education/Experience:

Level I - High school diploma or general education degree (GED), or one to two years related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Level II - High school diploma or general education degree (GED), two to four years related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Level III - Technical training certificates or associate’s degree, six to eight years related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to perform basic mathematical operations.

Ability to define problems, collect data, and establish facts.

Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls, and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, reach with hands or arms, climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands/arms and has the ability to lift up to 80 lbs.

Working Conditions:

The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to extreme heat, works in high, precarious places, outside weather conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock, and vibration.
