Position Summary:

The Welding Specialist will be responsible for developing and maintaining a welding and/or wire direct energy deposition additive process. This role involves qualifications in technology, personnel, and processes, along with providing hands-on shop support and strong problem-solving skills. The Specialist will also oversee 3rd party program accreditation and drive technology advancements.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

• Develop and manage the welding program according to AWS, ASME, and other standards. Work with the quality team to enhance systems for certification.
• Provide on-the-floor support to welders and engineering team members during welding processes and product execution.
• Collaborate with non-destructive testing team to establish and maintain a weld inspection program.
• Write and implement manufacturing procedures, including welding and additive manufacturing procedures.
• Create work procedures for new and repaired products for customer review.
• Review process and welder qualification samples with materials lab for sustainable quality performance.
• Interpret industry and customer specifications and communicate requirements.
• Teach welding concepts and practices to office and shop employees.
• Troubleshoot and problem solve using a scientific approach.
• Provide technical disposition of welding quality rejections and implement corrective actions for system failures.
• Conduct research and development projects for process improvement and product development.
• Possess expertise in welding and additive manufacturing through industry research.
• Analyze and handle rejections of internal and external forgings/welds, implementing necessary corrective actions.
• Qualify and oversee suppliers as needed.
• Represent the company in industry organizations when requested.
• Perform any other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Education/Experience:

Bachelor of Science Degree in Weld Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, or Material Science (with focus on weld processes) preferred. Comparable industry experience will also be considered.

Required Skills:

• Experience in establishing and maintaining a certified weld program.
• Intermediate understanding of physical metallurgy principles related to welding, metalworking, and heat treatment applications.
• Strong listening and communication skills.
• Technical skills in Weld Engineering, Physical Metallurgy, Heat Treatment Principles, Mechanical Testing, Microstructural Interpretation, Failure Analysis, NDE, Industry, and Customer Specifications.

Additional Desired Skills:

• Exposure to welding automation and robotics.
• Familiarity with additive manufacturing techniques such as Direct Energy Deposition (Wire or Powder), Friction Stir Welding, and Electron Beam Welding.
• AWS Certified Weld Inspector.
