Tax Department Head

Job Summary

The Tax Manager role is responsible for overseeing the tax department, managing staff, client assignments, and projects to deliver high-quality service. Additional responsibilities include assisting with office operations, client service activities, quality control, reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and staff development.

Supervisory and Leadership Focus

  • Provide effective and respectful leadership to associates, including staffing planning, selection, training, and performance management.
  • Monitor and review work product of associates, providing feedback and coaching.

Firm Focus

  • Participate in non-billable firm activities.
  • Promote the firm's values and contribute to ongoing initiatives.
  • Anticipate budget issues, improve assignment profitability, and assist in billings and collections.

Client Service

  • Serve as the Tax client service coordinator for assigned clients.
  • Advise clients on corporate tax services, compliance, and general business activities.
  • Manage client needs regarding tax services and compliance.

Business Development

  • Promote the firm to clients and business associates.
  • Understand available services and potential opportunities for new and existing clients.
  • Pitch additional service lines to clients.

Technical Expertise

  • Prepare and review tax returns.
  • Work on complex tax issues and communicate effectively with clients and the service team.
  • Stay up to date on current tax practices and changes in tax law.

Experience

  • Strong knowledge of US accounting standards.
  • Proficient in accounting and financial reporting.
  • Familiarity with computer software programs and technology used in the firm.
  • Understanding of FASB and IRC.
  • Minimum of 4 years' experience.
