Tax Supervisor

Location: Wheeling, WV

The Tax Supervisor role is responsible for overseeing staff, managing client assignments and projects, and providing a high-quality service. Additional responsibilities include assisting with the supervision of office operations and staff, client service activities, quality control, reporting, production revenue budgeting and forecasting. In collaboration with the Senior Manager/Principal, the Tax Supervisor also focuses on maximizing performance, production revenue, and staff development. This involves coaching, advising, and supporting team members in meeting client and self-development expectations. The position also ensures compliance with all firm and staff policies and procedures.

Supervisory and Leadership Focus:

  • Provide effective and respectful leadership to associates.
  • Plan appropriate staffing levels, conduct interviews and selection, and oversee orientation and training.
  • Communicate performance expectations, provide feedback, and recognize/celebrate achievements.
  • Create career growth opportunities and associate development plans.

Firm Focus:

  • Participate in Firm non-billable activities as requested.
  • Contribute to the Firm's core values and initiatives.
  • Understand and utilize Gallup Strengths within the team/organization.
  • Identify budget issues, improve assignment profitability, and assist in billings and collections.

Client Service:

  • Serve as the Tax client service coordinator for assigned clients.
  • Provide advice on corporate tax services, including planning, research, compliance, and general business activities.
  • Manage client needs in relation to tax services and federal and state tax compliance.

Business Development:

  • Promote the Firm to clients, business associates, and through community events.
  • Understand available services and identify opportunities to introduce clients to other areas of the firm.
  • Identify potential new clients and additional services for existing clients.
  • Pitch additional service lines to clients when necessary.

Technical Expertise:

  • Prepare tax returns and conduct detailed review and analysis.
  • Work on multiple complex issues and communicate in a non-technical manner with clients and the service team.
  • Review research findings and ensure compliance with firm policies and professional standards.
  • Assist with new business development, extended service, and identification of tax issues for existing clients.
  • Stay up to date on current tax practices and changes in tax law.

EXPERIENCE

  • Strong knowledge of U.S. accounting standards (cash, tax, and accrual basis).
  • Proficiency in accounting and financial reporting skills.
  • Familiarity with computer software programs and technology used by the Firm.
  • General knowledge of FASB and IRC.
  • Minimum of 4 years' experience.
