Position Summary:

The Supply Chain Leader is responsible for strategically planning and executing tasks related to procurement, acquisition, and distribution of raw materials and outside services. This role includes designing systems to support multi-site operational capacities and inventory levels for growth, lead-time, and competitive strategies. The Supply Chain Leader will lead improvement activities to increase supply chain velocity and company profitability, which may involve contract negotiations, stocking strategies, supplier diversification, and continuous improvement projects. The Supply Chain Leader also develops and strengthens strategic relationships with suppliers, monitors market trends, and serves as a resource for senior management in matters related to contracts and procurement.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Optimize production capabilities and protect company's markets/customers through a strategic supply chain model
  • Create and maintain strategic partnerships with suppliers, distributors, and customers to enhance market collaborations and operational improvements
  • Define and issue contracts to support operational efficiencies and timely product availability
  • Negotiate supplier agreements/contracts, obtain best pricing, and monitor quality and performance
  • Lead improvements to business systems to enhance inventory investments and operational versatility
  • Monitor commodity market pricing and translate market knowledge into actionable plans
  • Manage scrap material resale process and scrap dealer relationships
  • Identify and develop new supply sources, ensuring technical capability, quality, and standards
  • Conduct supplier reviews and recovery plans when necessary
  • Support development of delivery schedules and communicate with relevant departments
  • Establish and maintain performance metrics for suppliers and overall supply chain
  • Monitor and enhance inventory strategies to optimize cash flow and availability
  • Provide technical support and education on procurement and supply chain methodologies
  • Travel to conduct onsite vendor visits to verify vendor capabilities and processes

Qualifications:

  • BA/BS degree in Operations/Business/Supply Chain Management or a technical discipline
  • 7-10 years progressive experience in Purchasing & Sourcing within a manufacturing organization
  • 2-4 years recent experience in the Metals Industry
  • Moderate knowledge of steel making process and related processes
  • Experience in a multi-plant manufacturing environment with steel purchasing
  • ISM and/or APICS certification preferred
  • Strong understanding of business topics and their impact on the industry
  • Knowledge of ERP/MRP functions, preferably with JD Edwards experience
  • Demonstrated continuous improvement skillset and project management skills
  • Excellent communication skills across various stakeholders
  • Proficient in MS Office
  • Ability to work safely in a heavy manufacturing environment
