Building Design Engineer

Location: Spring Grove, IL

Position Summary:

The Building Design Engineer is responsible for the layout, design, and management of building structures, foundations, and site civil needs. This role requires project management of contractors for cost-effective and timely installations. The position is based in Spring Grove, IL, with support for two additional sites nearby.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

• Layout functional building and plant layouts
• Design reliable foundations for unique machinery
• Use SolidWorks and 2D CAD for designing building structures and plant layouts
• Conduct project analysis for feasibility and budgeting
• Develop specifications for bid packages and manage the contract process
• Create and maintain project schedules
• Manage sub-contractors for building and office projects
• Direct project crew personnel for design installation and assembly
• Oversee quality and safety of external contractor work
• Modify, redesign, and repair existing structures
• Deep understanding of building structural design and heavy machinery foundations
• Knowledge of plant utilities, civil engineering, building codes, and environmental codes
• Responsible for architectural and structural needs of all plants
• Ensure designs meet or exceed applicable codes and safety standards
• Assist with mechanical designs
• Experience in rigging and drafting written engineered lift plans

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Architectural/Structural Engineering
• Strong project management skills
• Knowledge of crane code manufacturing
• Familiarity with permitting, building codes, and standards
• Proficient in structural blueprint reading and 2D CAD generation
• Proficient in MS Office, including MS Project
• Excellent communication, organization, and attention to detail
