Safety (EHS) Manager

The Safety (EHS) Manager is responsible for overseeing the development, implementation, and maintenance of comprehensive environmental, safety, and health programs for the facility. This role ensures compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and standards to meet or exceed safety and environmental standards. The Safety Manager builds and maintains relationships with employees at all levels of the organization.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Establish strategic safety programs for the plant
  • Design and implement critical programs to achieve strategic direction
  • Develop safety program performance objectives and measure safety performance with KPI's
  • Communicate status/needs to plant employees and management
  • Provide leadership and direction in the development, administration, and maintenance of EHS compliance
  • Main focus areas include compliance and reporting, safety training, and safety program management

Compliance and Reporting:

  • Develop and maintain safety standards/directives and procedures
  • Ensure compliance with corporate and regulatory requirements
  • Assist with accident investigations and reporting
  • Provide recommendations for corrective or preventive measures
  • Maintain accurate environmental and injury/illness records
  • Stay up-to-date with EHS regulations and laws

Facility EHS Management Systems:

  • Develop and administer hazard analyses, safe operating procedures, risk management, loss control, waste water management, spill prevention, hazardous waste, DOT hazardous materials, emissions, emergency planning, and other system elements
  • Facilitate compliance with standards and guidelines through audits, inspections, and recordkeeping
  • Serve as liaison with external regulatory agencies

Safety Training:

  • Ensure proactive approach to accident prevention through employee training
  • Maintain training records and appropriate documentation
  • Coordinate and conduct safety training, including OSHA required training, safety orientation, chemical safety, and fire extinguisher maintenance

Contractor and Vendor Compliance:

  • Coordinate and review vendor's safety training
  • Ensure safety compliance of temp agencies
  • Manage first aid supplies and boot trucks

Program Oversight:

  • Manage Plant Safety Committee and site Cultural project efforts
  • Influence and direct a culture change across the organization
  • Oversee emergency response program, security program, fire protection assets, and inspections
  • Administer plant respiratory protection and hearing conservation programs

Education and/or Experience:

Bachelor's degree in Occupational / Industrial Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, Environmental Science, or other EHS related field preferred. Certification in an EHS related discipline and/or further education is a plus. Minimum of 5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment related to EHS program management.
