Location: New Orleans, LA

Purpose of the Position

The Purchasing Manager/Supply Chain Manager oversees the overall purchasing and inventory of raw ingredients and packaging used for production. They make recommendations to improve productivity, quality, and efficiency of operations. This position involves coordinating and resolving issues regarding existing and new products. The Procurement Director should be familiar with a variety of supply chain concepts, practice, and procedures, and rely on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. The primary responsibility is to execute the company's vision and mission by procuring all necessary ingredients, packaging, and non-inventory items needed to run and operate efficiently in the plant.

Responsibilities & Duties

  • Responsibility 1: Maintain ordering of raw ingredients and packaging material for production.
  • Responsibility 2: Communicate, schedule, coordinate, and follow up on delivery of all incoming materials, including intercompany transfer of goods needed for production.
  • Responsibility 3: Input and confirm all purchase orders into Great Plains ERP system; establishing pricing, estimated time of arrival, freight, and distribution for product items.
  • Responsibility 4: Execute established inventory stock levels, reorder amounts, and lead times for production.
  • Responsibility 5: Manage all raw ingredient reports including perishables, packaging, inventory, obsolete, and aging to maintain appropriate PAR levels based on lead time requirements.
  • Responsibility 6: Maintain and update vendor files, pricing notifications, and contract changes.
  • Responsibility 7: Support all departments, including Plant Operations, Corporate Purchasing, Accounting, and Sales.
  • Responsibility 8: Plan future material needs based on projections and historical data.
  • Responsibility 9: Assist in developing requirements for automation of procurement and logistics software.
  • Responsibility 10: Assist in developing training material and lesson plans for expanded ERP modules.

Academic Qualifications

Essential:

  • College degree
  • Certification in Supply Chain Management

Work Experience & Skills

Essential:

  • 5-7 years of buying experience or any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities have been achieved
  • Proven track record of controlling and reducing external spend while developing a robust supplier base
  • High competency level in use of Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word, as a minimum)
  • Experience working within a manufacturing environment
  • Ability to take a proactive approach to overcome challenges and achieve results
  • Strong experience in negotiating manufacturing and service agreements
  • Knowledge of materials, products, and commodity markets
  • Fully versed with modern procurement and purchasing techniques
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational, and presentation skills
