Job Title: Project Engineering Manager

Location: Omaha, Nebraska

Salary: $120-150K plus bonus

Job Summary:

We are seeking a qualified Engineering Manager who is results-focused, self-directed, data-driven, and adaptable to changing business and customer needs. This hands-on position involves working with engineers, technicians, and the product development team to build prototypes, conduct testing, and travel to customer sites for inspection and commissioning support.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or related field; or equivalent education.
  • 3-7 years of experience in managing, leading, and coaching a technical team.
  • Licensed Professional Mechanical Engineer (PE) in Nebraska with ability to obtain reciprocity in other states.
  • Experience in technical review of specifications for quotations and large contract risk assessment.
  • Experience in reviewing design risk assessment, verification, and validation activities to ensure customer requirements are met.
  • Ability to manage long project timelines and maintain high productivity to achieve project milestones.
  • Experience in writing design standards.
  • Proficiency in 3D modeling software.
  • Understanding and experience with regulatory codes such as UL, CSA, NEC, and NFPA.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong critical thinking and process-oriented mindset for issue resolution and continuous improvement.
  • Willingness and ability to travel nationwide and internationally, with an expected travel rate of 10%.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage a team of engineers and designers to complete project-specific engineering tasks.
  • Allocate resources within the Project Engineering team, assess and mitigate risks, and ensure timely delivery of technical deliverables.
  • Review and approve ECOs, drawing packages, bills of materials, and other technical documentation.
  • Ensure timely completion of Engineering Change Orders (ECOs).
  • Ensure timely completion of large projects and custom-engineered solutions.
  • Coordinate with sales and project management teams to allocate resources and manage workloads.
  • Ensure technical deliverable timelines for large projects are met.
  • Lead technical review of specifications for quotations and assess risks in large contracts.
  • Lead all activities related to the development of custom-engineered solutions, including design, modeling, prototyping, evaluation, and testing.
  • Review design risk assessment, verification, and validation activities to ensure customer requirements are met.
  • Establish design standards for transit systems and components to build application and product knowledge.
  • Support research and development activities, conduct design experiments, and provide feedback on test results.
  • Monitor and manage department Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
  • Review Corrective Action Reports (CARs) and provide support to address root causes and close issues.
  • Travel to perform on-site inspections for large projects and provide commissioning support nationally and internationally.
  • Coordinate engineering activities across all engineering teams with the Director of Engineering and Engineering Managers.
  • Supervise a group of Engineers and Designers.
  • Provide leadership, expertise, and conduct performance reviews for the team.
