Process Engineer (Materials)
Materials Process Engineer
Location: Bloomfield, CT
Duties/Responsibilities:
Process Optimization:
- Understand and evaluate equipment capabilities to meet engineering objectives.
- Learn and apply mechanical and control systems knowledge related to thermal and mechanical processing equipment, including furnaces, rolling mills, and wire drawing machines.
- Optimize existing processes by assessing workflows and identifying improvement opportunities.
Collaboration & Support:
- Work closely with maintenance personnel and external contractors to enhance quality and production.
- Procure quotes for new equipment as necessary.
- Translate materials processing requirements into quality documentation, bills of materials, and routings in an ERP system.
- Prepare and present product and process reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.
- Provide support for root cause analysis and customer complaints using methodologies such as 8D.
Continuous Improvement:
- Lead projects focused on continuous improvement for assigned KPIs, including On-Time Delivery (OTD), scrap reduction, and efficiency.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Strong knowledge of materials science, with a focus on metallurgy; experience with precious metals is a plus.
- At least 5 years of experience as a process engineer in a materials manufacturing environment.
- Proficient in analytical and problem-solving skills, with a strong ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues.
- Experience with statistical analysis and Design of Experiments (DOE) techniques.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
- Familiarity with process improvement methodologies such as Lean or Six Sigma.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and test results.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Materials Science and Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering with a concentration in Materials Science, or equivalent industrial experience.
- Professional certification in Six Sigma (Green Belt or higher) and/or Lean Manufacturing preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, ERP systems (Made2Manage preferred), and statistical analysis software.
