Job Summary of the Manufacturing Project Engineer:

The Manufacturing Project Engineer is responsible for developing new processes for the production of existing products, creating and fabricating test fixtures, designing and purchasing cost-effective equipment. They are accountable for the engineering, layout, and redesign of tooling, machinery, and equipment. Additionally, they are responsible for project monitoring and providing accurate cost estimates for product quotation requests. Troubleshooting and ensuring the production of a quality product in a cost-effective manner is also part of their duties.

Qualifications of Manufacturing Project Engineer:

  • Ability to be a technical expert in assembly, including material strength, manufacturing processes, OSHA standards, electrical/pneumatic controls, fluid power, and tool/fixture design and construction.
  • Responsible for acquiring equipment quotes during the justification process for capital expenditures.
  • Maintain strong relationships with vendors and suppliers who provide manufacturing equipment and installation services.
  • Responsible for establishing and updating manufacturing processes to ensure proper methods.
  • Assisting with product design for new/existing manufacturing processes and methods.
  • Provide training and support for the operation and maintenance of installed equipment.

Responsibilities of the Manufacturing Project Engineer:

  • Serve as the technical expert for assembly processes, including automatic assembly technology, PLC integration/programming, lean principles, vision detection/programming, and value stream mapping.
  • Design, oversee installation, and construction of production tools, fixtures, workstations, and jigs to improve safety, efficiency, reliability, profitability, while meeting design and material specifications.
  • Manage projects to ensure adherence to budgets.
  • Assist with monitoring government requirements (EPA, OSHA, etc.) to ensure compliance with standards.
  • Provide cost input for cost-reduced products and establish manufacturing standards for existing processes.
  • Conduct feasibility calculations for production projects to achieve labor and material savings without compromising product quality.
  • Design and supervise installation of equipment and systems to enhance efficiency and profitability.
  • Maintain manufacturing-related documentation, including blueprints, BOM's, routings, databases, machine programs, and APQP documentation.
  • Implement Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies to improve efficiency and profitability across the plant.
  • Program programmable controllers/machines used in manufacturing processes, such as PLC's, robots, CNC machines, and inspection equipment.
  • Support continuous improvement and compliance of QMS and EMS.
  • Manage projects to ensure timely achievement of scope, budget, and schedule goals.
  • Develop procedures and train plant personnel on operating newly installed or modified equipment according to approved processes.
  • Ensure department production processes meet safety, efficiency, reliability, and capability goals.
