Machinist B – CNC Lathe
Machinist focused on programming, setting up, and operating CNC Lathe machines. They produce production parts to required tolerances and due dates.
Programming, machine set up, and machine operation
- Writes programs on the machine and edit offline.
- Designs and builds basic fixtures related to various machining operations.
- Reads blueprints, job travelers, work instructions, program and tooling sheets, quality documents, and GD&T. Ensures processes and operations are correct.
- Sets up production machines following prints and specifications.
- Chooses, aligns, and securely attaches holding fixtures, jaws, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and other materials on machines according to work instructions.
- Applies knowledge of mathematics and instruments to calculate dimensions and tolerances.
- Identifies malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining; adjusts controls of machine to correct errors.
- Inspects and measures completed production units to identify defects caused by machine setup.
Workplace Safety and maintenance
- Is responsible for taking care of routine machine maintenance and keeping work area in neat condition.
- Ensures proper and safe use of material handling equipment such as cranes, carts, etc.
- Follows all company safety rules, including machine operation and guarding.
Reports/other related
- Maintains simple reports on work orders handled, quantities produced, and quality reports.
- Ability to follow work order instructions, blueprint reading, and geometric tolerances.
- Performs miscellaneous duties and participates in training as assigned by a supervisor.
Education & Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Associate degree in Manufacturing/Technical Programming; OR completion of a full apprenticeship program; OR successful completion of suitable company training required.
- At least three (3) years of experience as a fully qualified machinist required.
