IT Systems Administrator

Job Summary:

The IT Systems Manager is a motivated and experienced individual with a strong focus on networking and security. The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining our network infrastructure to ensure reliability, performance, and security. This role plays a crucial part in safeguarding our data and systems from internal and external threats while providing essential technical support to our employees.

Duties/Responsibilities:

Network Administration:

  • Designing, configuring, and maintaining local area networks (LANs), wide area networks (WANs), and wireless networks (WLANs).
  • Monitoring network performance and troubleshooting network issues to ensure optimal uptime and efficiency.
  • Managing network devices, such as routers, switches, firewalls, and VPNs.
  • Implementing and maintaining network security protocols and best practices.
  • Planning and executing network upgrades and expansions.

Security Administration:

  • Implementing and maintaining security systems, including firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems (IDS/IPS), and antivirus software.
  • Conducting regular security assessments and vulnerability scans.
  • Developing and enforcing security policies and procedures.
  • Responding to security incidents and performing forensic analysis.
  • Managing user access and permissions.
  • Staying up to date on the latest security threats and vulnerabilities.

Systems Administration:

  • Installing, configuring, and maintaining servers (Windows/Linux) and other IT infrastructure.
  • Managing Active Directory and other directory services.
  • Performing regular system backups and disaster recovery planning.
  • Providing technical support to end-users, resolving hardware and software issues.
  • Documenting all network and system configurations.

Collaboration and Communication:

  • Working closely with other IT team members, consultants, and internal departments to ensure seamless IT operations.
  • Effectively communicating with non-technical users to explain technical concepts.
  • Participating in IT projects and contributing to the development of IT strategies.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in network and security administration.
  • Strong understanding of networking protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, etc.).
  • Experience with network security tools and technologies (firewalls, IDS/IPS, VPNs).
  • Proficiency in Windows and/or Linux server administration.
  • Experience with Active Directory and other directory services.
  • Knowledge of security best practices and compliance standards (e.g., NIST, ISO 27001).
  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., CompTIA Network+, Security+, CCNA, CISSP) are a plus.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with cloud computing platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).
  • Experience with scripting languages (e.g., JAVA, Python, PowerShell).
  • Experience with SIEM (Security Information and Event Management) solutions.
  • Experience with Virtualization technologies (VMware, Hyper-V).
