Field Service Technician

Job Title: Field Service Technician

Location: Lansing, Michigan

Salary: $65-75K plus bonus

Job Summary:

We are seeking a self-directed Field Service Technician who excels at customer interaction and possesses strong technical writing skills. The technician will also collaborate with the Engineering team to provide product improvement recommendations for the Product Development Group. The Field Service Technician will be responsible for independently assembling, commissioning, inspecting, repairing, and troubleshooting systems both domestically and internationally.

Qualifications:

  • 5 years of experience in a Field Service role with decision-making responsibility
  • Electronics or Electrical certificate or degree
  • Ability to travel 70% of the time (domestic and international)
  • Proficient in writing trip reports, return material authorizations, test reports, and corrective action reports
  • Knowledge of PLC's highly preferred
  • Ability to read, understand, and troubleshoot systems using electrical schematics
  • Proficiency in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint in a Windows environment
  • Clean driving record
  • Comfortable working at heights
  • Experience with PLCs, VFDs, data acquisition, wiring, power equipment, and industrial electricity required
  • Experience with Siemens, ABB, and TMEiC platforms highly preferred
  • Must currently hold or be able to obtain a valid passport for international travel

Responsibilities:

  • Frequent interaction with customers, vendors, and contractors
  • Scheduling and coordinating participation of vested parties to inspect/witness equipment installation and participate in start-up and commissioning activities
  • Coordination internally to ensure timely response to customer inquiries
  • Troubleshooting of PLCs, VFDs, and other automated equipment both onsite and remotely
  • Repair of onsite equipment, including warranty and non-warranty claims
  • Routine inspections of existing system installations
  • Implementation of pre-commissioning activities in mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, and automation disciplines
  • Travel to customer sites for final commissioning and demonstration of equipment functions
  • Support project team in clearing mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, and automation punch list items
  • Participation in project and construction meetings as required
  • Provision of technical training to end-user operators and maintenance personnel
  • On-site trouble-shooting and fault elimination
  • Independent coordination of site visits and travel arrangements
  • Direct technical support for testing and field service activities
