Field Service Technician

Location: Hartford, Connecticut
Salary: $65-75K plus bonus
Job Summary of the Field Service Technician:
We are seeking a Field Service Technician who can work independently and interact effectively with customers. The ideal candidate should possess strong technical writing skills and contribute to product improvement recommendations for the Product Development Group. The Field Service Technician will be responsible for assembling, commissioning, inspecting, repairing, and troubleshooting systems both domestically and internationally.
Qualifications of the Field Service Technician:
- Minimum of 5 years experience in a Field Service role with decision-making responsibility
- Electronics or Electrical certificate or degree
- Ability to travel 70% of the time (both domestically and internationally)
- Proficiency in writing trip reports, return material authorizations, test reports, and corrective action reports
- Highly preferred knowledge of PLCs
- Ability to read, understand, and troubleshoot systems using electrical schematics
- Proficiency in working in a Windows environment and with Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Clean driving record
- No fear of heights
- Experience in the use of PLCs, VFDs, data acquisition, wiring, power equipment, and industrial electricity required. Siemens, ABB, and TMEiC platform(s) experience are highly preferred
- Must currently hold or be able to obtain a valid passport (with proper documentation to travel into and outside of the United States)
Responsibilities of the Field Service Technician:
- Frequently interact with customers, end-users, vendors, and contractors.
- Provide support in scheduling and coordinating the participation of vested parties during equipment installations and start-up activities.
- Ensure timely response to customer inquiries by coordinating internally.
- Troubleshoot PLCs, VFDs, and other automated equipment onsite and remotely.
- Repair equipment installed onsite at customer facilities, both warranty and non-warranty claims.
- Conduct routine inspections of existing system installations.
- Take ownership of pre-commissioning activities in mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, and automation disciplines, ensuring quality and accurate reporting.
- Travel to customer sites to perform final commissioning and demonstrate equipment functions according to specifications.
- Assist the project team in clearing and signing-off mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, and automation punch list items.
- Participate in project and construction meetings as required.
- Deliver technical training to end-user operators and maintenance personnel.
- Assist in troubleshooting technical issues on-site, analyzing and resolving faults.
- Coordinate all details of site visits with customers and/or end-users.
- Make all necessary travel arrangements (airfare, lodging, ground transportation, etc.).
- Provide direct technical support to customers, contractors, sales, and engineering for testing and field service activities.
Salary: $65,000.00 - $75,000.00
