Field Service Technician

Job Title: Field Service Technician Location: Hartford, Connecticut Salary: $65,000 - $75,000 + bonus Job Summary: We are seeking a self-directed Field Service Technician who excels in customer interactions, possesses strong technical writing skills, and contributes to product improvement recommendations for our Product Development Group. As a Field Service Technician, you will be responsible for independently assembling, commissioning, inspecting, repairing, and troubleshooting systems both domestically and internationally. Qualifications: - Minimum of 5 years of experience in a Field Service role with decision-making responsibilities - Certificate or degree in Electronics or Electrical - Ability to travel 70% of the time (domestic and international) - Proficiency in writing trip reports, return material authorizations, test reports, and corrective action reports - Strong knowledge of PLC's (Programmable Logic Controllers) highly preferred - Ability to read and troubleshoot systems using electrical schematics - Proficiency in working with Windows, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint - Clean driving record - Comfortability with working at heights Additional Preferred Qualifications: - Experience with PLCs, VFDs (Variable Frequency Drives), data acquisition, wiring, power equipment, and industrial electricity - Familiarity with Siemens, ABB, and TMEiC platforms - Possession of a valid passport or ability to obtain one with proper documentation for international travel Responsibilities: - Maintain regular communication and interface with customers, end-users, vendors, and contractors - Coordinate and schedule the participation of relevant parties during equipment installation and startup activities - Ensure timely responses to customer inquiries by coordinating internally - Troubleshoot and repair PLCs, VFDs, and other automated equipment both on-site and remotely - Conduct routine inspections of existing system installations - Oversee pre-commissioning activities in the mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, and automation disciplines, ensuring quality work and accurate reporting - Travel to customer sites for final commissioning, successfully demonstrating equipment functions per specifications and obtaining customer acceptance - Provide support to clear and sign-off on mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, and automation punch list items - Participate in project and construction meetings as required - Deliver technical training to end-user operators and maintenance personnel - Act as a trouble-shooter, resolving technical issues on-site and providing ongoing support to customers - Independently coordinate site visits and travel arrangements (airfare, lodging, ground transportation) - Provide direct technical support to customers, contractors, sales, and engineering for testing and field service activities
