Estimator – Heavy Civil
We are seeking a skilled estimator to join our team of heavy civil contractors in Columbia, SC. This position involves bidding on site work projects, including utilities, drainage systems, roads, and demolition, with project costs typically ranging from $500k to $20M.

THE ROLE YOU WILL PLAY
As an Estimator, you will be a key contributor in our company. In this role, you will be responsible for estimating grading, utilities, and demolition for various projects, such as site development, industrial development, commercial development, mining reclamation, overburden removal, demolition, and general site work. You will report to the Preconstruction Director and work at our headquarters in Columbia, SC.
- Prepare accurate estimates for projects ranging from $500k to $20M
- Estimate labor, equipment, and material costs for self-performed work
- Solicit, review, and prioritize quotations from materials and subcontractors for management review
- Demonstrate working knowledge of construction assemblies and all project phases
- Produce accurate estimates based on conceptual and schematic drawings
- Create detailed final contract estimates
- Assess site exposures and construction risks, and reflect them in estimates
- Identify constructability issues during the estimating process
- Recommend value-engineering alternatives
- Prepare construction handoff package after winning bids and respond to field questions regarding pricing and strategies used for estimate
- Collaborate effectively within a team
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Possible travel to project sites in SC, NC, and GA
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
QUALIFICATIONS FOR SUCCESS:
· A four-year degree in construction management, civil engineering, or equivalent is strongly preferred. Exceptional candidates without a degree but with significant practical experience will be considered.
· Experience as an estimator for a heavy civil contractor
· Proficiency in estimating grading, utilities, and demolition
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Project, etc.)
- Experience with takeoff/modeling software such as Agtek, Trimble Business Center, Carlson, or CAD
- Familiarity with HCSS or B2W software is a plus
· Valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record
