Director of Construction
Location: Connecticut / New York (Regional Travel Required)
Reports To: Executive Leadership
Direct Reports: 6–7 (Project Managers)
Experience Required: 10+ years in Construction Leadership
Industry: Commercial Construction (some Residential experience preferred)
Position Overview
We are currently looking for a Vice President / Director of Construction to lead and enhance an established construction business unit. This position calls for a strategic and hands-on leader with a track record of overseeing large projects, managing diverse teams, and driving operational excellence in commercial and residential construction.
The ideal candidate will be in charge of expanding the company's presence in Connecticut and New York, ensuring top-notch project delivery, client satisfaction, and sustainable business growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic leadership for construction operations in CT and NY.
- Mentor and lead a team of 6–7 direct reports-Project Managers.
- Develop business growth strategies for commercial construction and select high-end residential projects.
- Manage project life cycle from preconstruction to closeout and client handoff.
- Work with executive leadership to achieve business goals, financial targets, and operational KPIs.
- Cultivate a culture of safety, quality, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Identify new market opportunities and partnerships for regional growth.
- Ensure projects meet profitability targets, schedule requirements, and client expectations.
- Oversee resource allocation, project forecasting, and workforce planning.
- Represent the company in a professional manner in all interactions.
Qualifications
- 10+ years of construction management experience, with 5 years in a leadership role.
- Strong background in commercial construction, residential experience is a bonus.
- Proven success in leading teams and managing complex projects.
- Knowledge of construction operations, project controls, and financial management.
- Ability to implement growth and operational initiatives.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management or related field (Master’s preferred).
- Willingness to travel across CT and NY for project oversight and client meetings.
