Job Title: Automation Engineer

Job Summary: The Automation Engineer role entails supporting and advancing controls systems in the plant. This position offers operational assistance for controls systems, including troubleshooting manufacturing issues, optimizing system performance, and driving plant data collection and analysis. Close collaboration with engineering and operations teams for all Wisconsin plants is required to provide control system specifications for plant expansion projects.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Perform maintenance duties related to control/networking systems, including preventative, routine, and emergency tasks.
  • Make recommendations for plant equipment selection and controls requirements.
  • Oversee external controls vendors, ensuring clear work requirements and appropriate delivery.
  • Design, code, test, and debug programs, and modify existing programming for effective plant processes.
  • Develop easy-to-understand HMI using graphics and process diagrams.
  • Establish standards for control system reliability and develop maintenance replacement plan for aging or problematic equipment.
  • Manage and document controls cabinets properly.
  • Coordinate with IT network engineers to ensure controls network communications meet performance and security requirements.
  • Work with IT to address security risks and maintain appropriate practices.
  • Maintain necessary spare parts for controls systems to minimize downtime risk.
  • Ensure proper licensing and support of controls software and hardware.

Education & Experience:

Preferably a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related controls/automation technical degree with equivalent work experience.

Minimum of 3 years of experience in controls engineering, preferably in a food processing, beverage processing, or dairy processing plant.

Experience with Allen Bradley PLCs, related components, and Logix programming.

Proficiency in various HMI development tools, including Factory Talk View, Aveva InTouch, and related systems (tag/data servers, historians, etc).

In-depth knowledge of automation technologies, control system design, and troubleshooting methodologies.

Strong project management skills with the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with internal teams and external resources.
