Director of Employee Benefits
Location: Santa Ana, CA
The Benefits Director oversees daily operations of the benefits team and client engagement. This role is responsible for ensuring the efficient administration of all PEO-sponsored benefit plans, driving operational excellence, and providing exceptional client and employee experiences. The Benefits Director collaborates closely with executive leadership, client services, and cross-functional teams to develop innovative solutions, streamline processes, and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements. This position requires a proactive leader with strong analytical, communication, and relationship-management skills to balance strategic planning with hands-on operational execution.
Essential Duties and Requirements:
- Lead, mentor, and develop the benefits team
- Conduct regular meetings and performance reviews
- Review, approve, and manage time-off requests
- Foster a collaborative team culture
- Partner with leadership on recruitment and onboarding
- Provide consultative guidance to clients on benefit plans
- Ensure timely and accurate responses to inquiries
- Oversee administration of benefit plans
- Lead ACA planning and compliance efforts
- Coordinate and conduct discrimination testing
- Continuously evaluate and improve departmental processes
- Analyze client experience survey scores
- Update benefit forms, resources, and communication templates
- Design and implement strategic initiatives
- Serve as backup resource for complex client conversions
Work Experience and Education:
Bachelor’s degree preferred with seven or more years’ experience in benefits; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Three or more years of prior management experience. Advanced knowledge of ACA, ERISA, HIPAA, COBRA, and other applicable regulations.
Skills:
Ability to preserve confidentiality of information. Ability to work independently in a remote environment. Strong organizational, time management, and interpersonal skills. Excellent written and oral communication. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
Position is remote within Southern California. Employee may work from home or in office but is expected to come to the office occasionally for meetings or attend client visits.
