Building Design Engineer - Spring Grove, IL

Position Summary:

The position requires individuals with knowledge and skills in laying out, designing, and managing the development of building structures, foundations, and site civil needs. The role also involves project management responsibilities, including overseeing contractors and ensuring cost-effective and timely installations.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Layout functional building/plant layouts and design reliable foundations for unique pieces of machinery.
  • Utilize 2D CAD software for layout, design, and documentation of building structures, plant/equipment layouts, and plant utilities.
  • Analyze projects to determine feasibility, develop budgets, and calculate project ROI.
  • Create detailed specifications for bid packages, obtain quotes, negotiate prices and delivery terms, review contracts, and authorize projects.
  • Develop and maintain visual schedules for building/foundation projects using MS Project or project management software.
  • Schedule and provide instructions to subcontractors for plant building and office projects as a general contractor.
  • Safeguard quality and safety by overseeing the work of external contractors during the installation of buildings, foundations, and utilities.
  • Modify, redesign, and repair existing structures as required.
  • Possess in-depth knowledge and understanding of building structural design and heavy machinery foundation design.
  • Ensure compliance with building codes, environmental codes, and regulations related to plant utilities and civil engineering.
  • Handle architectural/structural needs for all three plants and two joint venture plants as a corporate position.
  • Design structures that meet or exceed applicable codes, prioritizing plant and personnel safety and conducting analysis, validation, and due diligence.

Non-Essential Duties (nice to have skills):

  • Assist with mechanical designs using SolidWorks.
  • Experience in rigging and drafting written engineered lift plans.


  • Bachelor's degree in Architectural/Structural Engineering.
  • Strong Project Management skills (degree and/or experience).
  • Professional Engineering License (nice to have).
  • 3-5 years of experience in the manufacturing industry.
  • Knowledge of permitting, building codes, and standards.
  • Proficiency in reading structural blueprints and generating 2D CAD drawings.
